STEM is a term that refers to the academic disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics; sometimes it is also called STEAM, including ARTs.
STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in all four disciplines with an interdisciplinary and applied approach. It is the term used for the set of skills and knowledge in all of these four disciplines, each of which is deeply intertwined with each other.
STEM IN OTHER COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD
United States has historically been a leader in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. In 2009 administration of President Obama announced a campaign namely "Educate to innovate" to motivate and inspire students to excel in STEM subjects. This campaign also addresses the inadequate number of teachers skilled to educate in these subjects in an interdisciplinary manner. Likewise in United Kingdom, Royal academy of engineering has aim to graduate approximately 100,000 students in STEM. Germany is also working on STEM programs to meet the requirements of 210,000 STEM workers across the country.
WHY WE NEED STEM EDUCATION IN PAKISTAN?
In Pakistan our education system is following the process that is formed more than 25 years ago. Now the technology is getting revolutionized day by day which is difficult to understand with existing curriculum of our educational system. By introducing STEM Education in Pakistan we can change the thinking of our children and can perform much better in all fields of technology not just one field of interest.
STEM education is the solution to the problem of being lag behind the world. An education of all the dimensions of science with practical of engineering and technological based equipment using mathematics to analyze and visualize the problem.
